When They Say Turn the Other Cheek
Retail is hell,
everybody knows that.
My soul is a cannibal
or maybe I’m just tired,
my eyes stinging with smoky air
from Californian wildfires.
Children take books from shelves
and leave them on the floor.
Outside a tourist fights with his wife,
“Why do you want to go in a bookstore?”
he shouts into thick air.
